This will be a quick update because, basically, there's nothing to report. In recent updates, I've expressed serious concern (ie. worry!) about both proposed Ukranian legislation that could result in a moratorium on international adoptions and a restructuring of the ministries within the Ukrainian government that could have an unknown impact on our adoptions. It appears now as though neither situation will become an issue. This isn't a 100% "all clear" but it's good enough.
Of course, our facilitor delighted in pointing out that much of what we worry about never happens to which I quickly pointed out that focused worry is quite purposeful as it prevents random worry which we all know is disorienting and unproductive! In any case, I'm a mother whose kid's daily life decisions are under the direction of someone else. Need I even try to put into words that this situation CANNOT end soon enough? We are about as ready as we can be to get this whole thing started and completed!!
One last thing to report. I got a job. I report this one with mixed feelings. We certainly need the money, but I was just getting into all that I wanted to accomplish before we go to Ukraine. In any case, I've been extended a near perfect opportunity. It's a two-month contract in clinical research that will nicely bridge the gap on my resume since I left the field in 2007. More importantly, it will open employment options for me when we return home as a family, if I so chose to pursue this field of work.
Before I sign off, I want to praise God and congratulate the many families on their recently completed adoptions. Every adoption is truly a miracle! But despite the miracles that are occurring, there are many, many more waiting for their chance at the miracle of a family. If you have any interest in facilitating one of these miracles (either through adoption or advocating for a child's adoption), please let me know and i'll gladly make the connection for you. I don't personally know these children, but the Noel family from PA (adopting Valeriy's best friend from their summer 2009 hosting program) has developed strong personal relationships with several kid's in their son's orphanage (preferably "children's home") and has details. It is evident that the children with whom he has formed a bond hold the key to miracle-making for a family who has a little more love to give. I promise, if you'll open your heart, you'll be blown away!
Many blessings to all.....
