God’s plan ROCKS! I could never have birthed a kid as content & delightful (& bright) as my son!! I am still in disbelief...
So then...I’m left to ponder how it is one blogs about the most boringly perfect day of one’s life. We really just hung around the apartment all day today. It was exactly what our brand new family of three needed! It could not have been any more perfect.
And he could not be more amazing! He’s just the right amount of everything! And if he learns to speak English as fast as he’s learned to play every game we’ve got, you’ll be able to have a conversation with him by the time we get home! OK, so that’s probably an exaggeration (plus, he’s shy – so he’s probably not going to say much to you the first time you meet him anyway) but he really picks up on things fast & I think he understands a lot more than we think he does. His confidence in his ability to speak English will come with time (& I think his sister will help too!).
Yesterday Henry asked us if he could give the big black & red soccer ball that we bought him – and that he LOVED! – to his friends at the orphanage as a parting gift. Of course, we said “yes”! The yellow ball belongs to the family that owns the apartment we are staying in (I think they are temporarily living in London). They have a small child and there is a child’s room with toys & a toy box. It’s been perfect for us (although most of what he does is play with the games & books we brought with us or have bought for him since we’ve been here – yeah, the same ones he wasn’t interested in just a few days ago in the orphanage)!! Oh, and the living room furniture is on wheels. BIG HIT!! This is him playing foot hockey with his Papa.
I’m tired. I had my Mom ears on all night last night! I couldn’t bear to think he would be scared or need me and I would not hear him (because I'm like at least 7 or 8 feet across the hall from him!) & I didn’t know if we would come get me. So I pretty much listened to him breathe all night. He never needed me. But I heard him wake up fairly early (the sun comes up VERY EARLY here!)& I had him come get in our bed (we have a king sized bed which I think is like only for rock stars in Ukraine!). He fell right back asleep (too bad I didn’t) & he woke up just like a Sapienza – SLOWLY!!
What else can I say? He’s a good eater – prefers junk but eats healthy stuff too - & he eats like a boy – A LOT! Basically, he's curious & fun- loving & he goes to bed a thousand times smarter than when he woke up. And we still didn’t break him!! We are pretty much ready for a good night’s sleep & Day 3.
Otherwise, I’m homesick… It’s chronic but gets worse in waves. I wanna collect my daughter & come home. If you asked me what I missed most about America & home, I don't know that I could be that specific. But I can tell you that what will likely linger the longest is the lack of fitness & healthy lifestyle.
If I dare say…& if a miracle happens, we leave here in ten days (I would have used the number but it’s still double digits and psychologically I can’t handle it). Please know that your prayers & posts & comments have sustained me. This has been way harder than I ever expected. Of course, they payoff is immeasurable!
Here’s what I saw when I looked out my window to say “good night” to America tonight...
And please share this moon with me in about 7 hours…
Spokoynay nochee.......

Happy Mother's Day momma!!! Can't wait to eventually meet your God-sent kids!!! <3
ReplyDeleteA very special Happy Mother's Day! I think it is so funny and motherly how you listened to him breathe while he slept. I remember doing this with both of my boys when we brought them home from the hospital. Newborn or not, it's obviously a mama thing! Yep...you've got those instincts working!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mothers Day! Ive been shy to leave a comment and was going to wait until you get home but maybe now is the time. We are the Robinsons, if you go to Reeces Rainbows "My Family Found Me" page our child is "Diana" and we are set for submission this wednesday. Her orphanage is in Odessa, number 3 it is called. So we will be going from Kiev to Ukraine and then on to Kerch where another child is. Ive been really nervous about going, im to leave my 4 kids at home and I get homesick going to the store, so im worried how im going to handle this. Since ive been reading your blog ive been heartened to see that the pick me up you loved best was Odessa! Its been my comfort thought. If you would take the time can you make me a list of things to do and places to eat there and maybe your favorite streets and stuff? if you are busy and want to wait till you get home I totally understand. Just thought id mention how much your blog has meant to me in my head, how much I replay what youve written about Odessa to myself. Thanks so much! Suzanne Robinson
